ABOUT RMAI

The Rural Marketing Association of India (RMAI) is a premier national industry body committed to strengthening and advancing the rural marketing ecosystem in India. Established in 2005, RMAI has been at the forefront of enabling organisations to effectively engage with Bharat through insight-led strategies, on-ground activation, and knowledge-driven platforms.

Over the years, RMAI has built a strong and diverse membership base comprising leading corporates, agencies, development organisations, and rural specialists—collectively working towards enhancing the effectiveness, credibility, and impact of rural marketing initiatives across the country.

India’s rural economy continues to play a pivotal role in the nation’s growth story. With a significant share of the population residing in rural and semi-urban regions, these markets contribute substantially to overall consumption.

Today, rural India accounts for:
• Over 45–50% of FMCG consumption
• Approximately 50%+ demand across key consumer durable categories
• A rapidly growing base of digitally connected consumers
As income levels, infrastructure, and digital penetration improve, rural markets are increasingly becoming central to corporate growth strategies, making it essential for organisations to adopt nuanced, inclusive, and scalable engagement approaches.

Our Role
In this evolving landscape, the Rural Marketing Association of India (RMAI) serves as a unified platform for industry stakeholders to collaborate, share knowledge, and drive best practices. The association actively works towards:
• Promoting structured and impactful rural marketing frameworks
• Building credibility and standardisation within the ecosystem
• Facilitating dialogue between industry, government, and development sectors
• Supporting policy advocacy and submissions to relevant ministries
• Showcasing excellence through industry platforms such as awards and conferences
• Curating sector-focused knowledge platforms and initiatives, including Fintech, Agri, Digital Dot Rural, Rural Conclave, Rural Immersion Programme, Sustainability & CSR, Rural Mobility & EV, Flame Awards, Rural Leadership Awards as well as Student and Industry Awards—designed to encourage dialogue, innovation, and cross-sector learning within the rural ecosystem

Our Origin
RMAI traces its origins to a collective of forward-looking individuals who were actively shaping rural marketing in its early growth phase. With deep grassroots understanding and a strong belief in the potential of rural India, they recognized the need for a formal industry body—one that could foster collaboration, build credibility, and address the emerging needs of this dynamic sector.
